Thewindshield wipers slamming back and forth trying to keep up with the peltingrain only added to my irritation as I adjusted to driving the used car I hadjust purchased—an old station wagon with 80,000+ miles and no side-impactairbag protection for the kids.

大雨倾盆而下，挡风玻璃上的雨刷，猛力地左右摆动，发出令人厌烦的声响，更加添了我的烦躁。我正在适应这辆才刚买没多久，里程数却已超过八万英哩的老旧休旅车，而这部车也没有保护孩童的侧面防撞气囊。

 To get this station wagon, and some badlyneeded cash for groceries, I had sold the last “treasure” we owned: a 1992Volvo station wagon with side-impact airbag protection for the kids. By then,everything else was gone. Our house and our savings had all disappeared underthe weight of uncovered medical expenses from life-threatening illnesses.

由于家人生了一场大病，为了支付庞大的医药费，我们卖了房子、花光了存款，真的是山穷水尽。现在家里急需现金购买食品杂货，我们不得不卖掉最后一样值钱的东西，那部1992年出厂，具备侧面防撞气囊的休旅车，买了这辆旧车。

“Okay, God,” I actuallysaid out loud, “now I can’t even protect my kids from side-impact crashes. Ifanything happens to them, let me tell You what I’m going to do . . .”

我不禁大声地说：「好吧！上帝！假设现在车子遭到侧面撞击，我根本没办法保护小孩。如果他们真的出了什么意外，就让我来告诉祢，我打算怎么做……」

Thwip,thwap. Thwip, thwap. (Gulp.)

Iwas instantly ashamed. In the previous 2 years God had spared both my wife andmy son from almost certain death, and yet here I was whining about “things” Ihad lost. Just like that I’d learned how quickly I could grow ungrateful toGod. The loving Father, who did not spare His own Son so I could be saved, hadactually spared my son in a miraculous fashion.

在烦人的雨刷声中，我突然感到羞愧。过去两年，上帝已经保住我太太和儿子的性命，此时我却为了失去身外之物而抱怨连连，我竟然这么快就忘记了上帝的恩典，忘记慈爱的天父让祂的爱子牺牲生命，使我得着救恩，同时也以奇妙的方式拯救我的儿子。

“Forgive me, Father,” Iprayed. Already done, My child.

我惭愧地说：「天父，原谅我吧！」上帝轻声地告诉我：「早已原谅你了，孩子！」

Prayer 祷告：

How easy it is, Lord, to let thetrials of the moment strip us of the memory of Your protection and provision.Praise You, Father, for Your patience and Your unending, unconditional love.

主啊，试炼常让我们忘记祢的保护与供应。天父，赞美祢，因祢满有耐心，且有无尽的、无条件的爱。
