我要称谢你，因我受造奇妙可畏。你的作为奇妙，这是我心深知道的。

【创作背景】
何芮萧 ? 斯巴弗 (Horatio G. Spafford) 是芝加哥的一个很有前途的律师，投资了许多房产。
1871 年，他四岁的独生子因猩红热 (scarlet fever) 丧生。几个月后，著名的芝加哥大火 (Great Chicago Fire, 1871) 又夺走了他所有的财富。两年后 (1873 年)，斯巴弗本来计划要和妻女一同去欧洲度假，不过因为临时有事，他只好让妻子 Anna 带着他们的四个女儿 Annie，Maggie，Bessie 和 Tanetta 先行而去。可是在大西洋途中，妻女所搭的蒸汽船 Ville du Havre 却与另一艘铁船相撞，四个女儿全部丧生，只有妻子存活。就在前往英格兰，四个女儿遇难的地点的途中，斯巴弗写下了 It Is Well with My Soul 《我心灵得安宁》这首非常著名的诗歌。
