哥林多后书8:9
你们知道我们主耶稣基督的恩典：他本来富足，却为你们成了贫穷，叫你们因他的贫穷，可以成为富足。
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

创作背景
这首圣诗的作者是伊洛蒂（Charlotte Elliott）的侄女伊茉莉（Emily E. S. Elliott, 1836 -1897）。 她的父亲是圣公会的牧师，她也热心宣教和主日学事工。
这首诗是为了她父亲教会的诗班所写，并用来教导主日学的儿童有关耶稣降生的故事。 伊茉莉以路加福音二章七节「客店里没有地方」为依据。
第一节：以主在天的荣耀尊贵，和地上的贫苦卑微为对比。
第二节：一切受造之物都有居所，唯独人子无枕首之处。
第三节：祂为人带来救恩，人却在骷髅地置祂于死。
第四节：战胜死亡凯哥升天，为罪人留空处于天。
