洁净之道丨第四十八天 你们从前也是这样

One of the greatest benefits of being a Christian is that God makes us different than we used to be. When God rescues as from impurity and makes us slaves of righteousness, we become totally different people. 


I take comfort in the assurnace that while I was once a pornographer and an adulterer, that is no longer who I am. You may have been addicted to pornography, you may have slept with prostitutes, you may have been a homosexual or a pedophile; you may have had extramarital affairs or contracted an incurable sexually transmitted disease. But no matter what you were, that is not what you are now, if you're in Christ.


作为一名基督徒的最大收获之一就是神使我们不同于从前。当神把我们从污秽中救拔上来,并使我们成为义的奴仆时,我们成了完全不同的人。


尽管我曾经迷恋色情并通奸,但我在确信中得到安慰,我不再是从前的我。也许你曾经对色情上瘾,曾与娼妓同寝,或是同性恋或娈童,又或者你曾有过婚外情或是患上了性病。但是无论你曾经如何,如果你在基督里,那都不是现在的你。



Friend, this is important to realize because our behavior is affected by our self-image. Because I am no longer a pornographer, I don't act like one. 


I am not addicted to anything impure, so I don't ogle women or glance at sexually explicit magazines. I am not who I used to be, so I don't act as I previously did.


朋友,认识这一点很重要,因为我们的行为被我们的自我形象所影响。因为我不再是色情狂,我行事就不像那样的人。

Today we'll read Scripture that teaches this, and I'll share a phenomenal testimony of how the grace of God has changed a friend into a totally new person.

The New Testament church has inspired both exciting and disastrous experiments throughout history. 


Hoping to create the perfect New Testament community, some have tried to establish groups in which all the spiritual gifts are expressed, with spontaneous worship and deep fellowship. But they forget the one element common to all New Testament churches—problems!

In 1 Corinthians 1-4, Paul dealt with divisions in the church. Here, he focuses on serious moral problems in Corinth. Incest and drunkenness (chapter 5) during communion are hardly what we hope to find in church. 


But we must remember that growing churches are not usually filled with well-scrubbed Christians, but with a motley collection of sinners being saved.


哥林多前书1-4,保罗处理了教会的纷争。在这里,他专注在哥林多的一系列道德问题。我们都不希望在教会中发现团契中的乱伦和醉酒(第5章)。

Paul warns against being deceived, because deception about this is common. Some argue that because salvation is by grace, not by works, why does it matter if sinners keep on sinning? 


Such thinking overlooks the fact that a new life in Christ results in a new lifestyle (verse 11). Genuine salvation results in actually being saved from ongoing, habitual sin.


保罗警告不要自欺,因为对此自欺是常有的事。有些人辩论说救恩是因着恩典而不是行为,那么罪人继续犯罪为什么不行呢?


这样的想法忽略了一个事实,就是在基督里的新生命会引出一个新的生活方式(第11节)。真正的救恩带来的结果是,从持续、习惯性的罪中真实地被拯救出来。



Paul's list of sins refers to continuous lifestyles or practices, not to onetime involvement. 


The list may call to mind the list of works of the flesh in Galatians 5:19-21. In both cases, persistence in fleshly living is implied.


保罗关于罪的清单提到了一些持续性的生活方式或是做法,而不是指偶尔的过犯。这个清单让我们想起在加拉太书5:19-21中关于情欲之事的清单。在这两个地方,都指向了肉体的残余。



Likewise, Paul's mention of both male prostitutes and homosexual offenders does not mean that a person with homosexual tendencies who is living chastely is excluded from the kingdom. 


The two words Paul uses here, "malakoi" (men or boys who allow themselves to be misused homosexually) and "arsenokoitai" (a male homosexual) are significant.

He puts them in mind what a change the gospel and grace of God had made in them: Such were some of you (verse 11), such notorious sinners as he had been reckoning up. The Greek word for "such things were some of you" is tauta: very monsters rather than men. 


Note: some that are eminently good after their conversion have been as remarkably wicked before. How glorious a change does grace make! 


It changes the vilest of men into saints and children of God. Such were some of you, but you are not what you were. You are washed, you are sanctified, and you are justified in the name of Christ by the Spirit of our God.

Note, the wickedness of men before conversion is no bar to their regeneration and reconciliation to God. The blood of Christ, and the washing of regeneration, can purge away all guilt and defilement. 


Note, None are cleansed from the guilt of sin, and reconciled to God through Christ, but those who are also sanctified by His Spirit. All who are made righteous in the sight of God are made holy by the grace of God. Matthew Henry Commentary

Course member Brian wrote, "I was reading today's lesson when I had an 'Aha.' I never thought about Scripture from Paul's letter to the Corinthians quite the way you put it. I am no longer to think of myself as an ex-alcoholic, ex-smoker, and an ex-pornography addict. 


Those sins are behind and I need to go forth as a new man, a Christian. I believe the statement, 'You are what you think you are or if you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right' is relevant here. I can now see the freedom Jesus gave us when He paid the price for our sin. 


I have nothing against 12-Step programs, but they seem to lock some people into a mindset that they will be addicts forever. If I am, indeed, free because of Jesus, then I am no longer a recovering addict, I am free indeed. God bless you."

Friend, if we are in Christ, we are not who or what we were. The story is told of Augustine who passed a familiar prostitute without turning a second glance at her. 


She turned and said, "Augustine, it is I." To which he replied, "Yes, but it is not I." He knew that he was not who he used to be. Do you?

To clarify what the first accountability question means, we have included the following explanation.

What does "feasting" mean?"

Feasting" is more than just reading the Bible; 

it is a term to express the nourishing of our souls in Jesus Christ. It means that we are sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing His Word and believing it, for the purpose of implementing the truths into our lives. It means we are receiving spiritual nourishment and we are delighting our souls in His grace and truth. 


This may be done in reading our Bibles, hearing God's Word preached, interacting with others in the Scriptures, and studying through this course, etc. This definition is at least a start; further explanation is included in the lessons.
